SceneEngine Plug-Ins for 3dsmax and Maya

A new version of the SceneEngine DCC plug-ins is now available. Using CMake we're now able to build the DCC plug-ins for 3ds Max 9, 2008, 2010 and Maya 2008 and 2010, in both 32 Bits and 64 Bits. Download the plug-ins here, or drop us a line if you don't see your favourite Max or Maya version in this bunch.

CMake Build

The SceneEngine libraries can now be built using CMake. CMake automates the build of the libraries and the DCC plug-ins for any Visual Studio version, in 32 or 64 bits. A CrackArt build, and other operating systems might come soon. And as a bonus, we made two short tutorials about how to build Maya and 3ds Max plug-ins using CMake.

New CrackArt Beta Version

The new CrackArt Beta Version features a complete re-write of the Texture Painting plug-in, with numerous new features like Real 3D Painting, Projection Painting, 2D Painting, Decals and Masks.
All the painting tools have been improved and now include many new useful options, like sample merged for the blur and smudge tool, and texture cloning for the clone tool.

Improved 3D Texture Painting Tool

Stable version with additional 3D Texture Painting tools. This new CrackArt's release
has a lot of powerful features like:
- Use bitmaps as patterns for painting.
- Draw, Erase, Blur, Smudge, Clone and Fill tools.
- Two layers painting. Paint on the canvas layer and protect your work on the background layer.
- Brush options like opacity, pressure, shape, angle, aspect, spacing, jitter, fade, airbrush, etc.
- Multiple blending modes and opacity for the brush stroke and the canvas layer.
- Support for multiple objects.
- Clone tool

CrackArt allows to import-export of 3dsmax and Maya, and is able to import and export 3DS, OBJ and FBX scenes.

OGRE Plug-in
March 25, 2009



SceneEngine and CrackArt include a new OGRE export plug-in. This plug-in saves OGRE mesh.xml files.

Surfacer Modifier

Surfacer is a Topology Modifier that generates mesh surfaces from splines. Surfacer combines in a single modifier the following algorithms: Cap, Extrude, Bevel, Profile and Revolve.

New Curve Shapes

Rectangle Object, a new Curve shape has been added to CrackArt
The SymGon Object now creates Stars and Regular Polygons.
A new option to create holes has been added to the Triangulation Object.


Triangulation Object

The TriangulationObject now has a user interface in CrackArt that can be used to create complex meshes by combining multiple splines. Markers can be used to define holes and different material ids, and new options give the user more control over the triangulation.

Bezier Spline Object

CrackArt now supports creation and edition of Bezier Splines. Many Bezier spline tools have been added to the SceneEngine library to edit splines, like Break Knots, Divide Segments and auto generation of Bezier handles. Visit the new CrackArt BezierSplineObject page.

NormalTexture
November 28, 2008



A new texture was added to the materials library. NormalTexture. This texture is a normal perturbator that creates bump from a normal maps. For more information visit the NormalTexture wiki. The Mayan Skull video tutorial explains how to generate and use normal maps in CrackArt.


CrackArt - Texture Baking

A new ToolBlock has been added to SceneEngine and CrackArt to store Texture Baking sessions and render them from the Control Panel Tools Page. Visit the Texture Baking for more information, or check this video tutorial to see it in action.

Extrude Faces

An Extrude Faces tools was added to the PolyMesh library. This tool is now also available in CrackArt PolyMesh Face tools.

Catmull-Clark Subdivision Surfaces

A Catmull-Clark Subdivision tool was added to the PolyMesh library, and a new ObjectModifier was created to apply subdivision to objects.

TriangulationObject
June 29, 2008



TriangulationObject is a new compound object that builds a TriMesh from a table of Polylines and holes. The TriangulationObject uses the Triangle library by Jonathan Richard Shewchuk. Visit the TriangulationObject for more info about this new object.


Import FBX
June 18, 2008



Autodesk's FBX file format is now supported by SceneEngine with the new ScEngFBX Import/Export plugin. Visit the Import Export FBX wiki page for more information.


NoiseTexture with bump

Bump evaluation has been added to the NoiseTexture.

UVAtlasModifier Plugin
June 03, 2008



UVAtlas is a Direct3D API that automatically generate an optimal, non-overlapping texture atlas. A new SceneEngine plugin implements an easy to use interface to Direct3D's UVAtlas using the new UVAtlasModifier. The UVAtlasModifier supports TriMesh and PolyMesh objects.
UVAtlas is available only for Microsoft Windows based systems.

Texture Baking - Wireframe

Wireframe has been added as a new Texture Baking render element. This render element was added to aid in the visualization of new automatic uvw channels created with the AtlasUV modifier. Visit the Texture Baking page for more information.


Render Elements: Lighting

Lighting has been added as a new supported render element. The lighting channel is composed by the applied diffuse lights and ambient occlusion.


Ambient Occlusion

3D Procedural Textures

3D Procedural Textures layout is now defined and new procedural textures are being added to SceneEngine. Perlin Noise is the first of such textures to be supported by SceneEngine.
